Aug 26, 2019 To do this, first press and hold the Control and Command keys, then hold the Mac’s power button. If you don’t have a power button, then you’ll need to hold Control and Command plus the Eject button or the Touch ID button instead. Keep the button held down for around 10 seconds, after which your Mac’s screen should go black. Jan 06, 2020 The key command to shut down your MacBook is Control, Eject. Simply hold down the control button and then press the eject key which is usually on the top left of the keyboard on most Apple keyboards. When you press these keys together the shutdown dialog box will appear and you can click on shutdown to turn off the Mac completely. If you need to shut down and run out the door, press Ctrl+Opt+Cmd+Eject to shut down immediately, also without alerts or warning dialogs. Be careful using these commands though: you won't be.

By now we have all started to get to grips with macOS Sierra and all of it's cool new features, especially Siri. There is a way to firstly invoke Siri handsfree just like on the iPhone. This though is not a feature present in Sierra and involves a workaround.
it is important to understand this first step so that the next step that involves shutting down your mac using Siri makes sense.
1. launch system preferences and go to accessibility
2. scroll down in the left hand pane to dictation
3. enable enhanced dictation command
4. in the box below enter the first part of the phrase you wish to use to invoke Siri. If you wish to use hey computer then
just put hey (try not to put hey Siri as otherwise you will accidentally call Siri on nearby iPhones)
5. click the button at the top marked dictation command
6. click the + button and in the first box enter the second part of your command so in this example it would be computer
7. in the next box leave it set to all applications and in the last box choose the option launch application
8. choose Siri.app
9. click done
now when you close system preferences and say the phrase hey computer it will launch siri
Now we can go a step further and use this thinking to shut down the mac.
1. launch system preferences and go to accessibility
2. click on dictation
3. click on dictation command and click the + button to create a new command
4. in the first box enter the phrase shutdown my mac (or whatever phrase you wish to use)
5. in the next box leave it as it is
6. in the last box choose press keyboard shortcut and enter a keyboard shortcut not used by other apps, I chose
control-option-command-p
7. then click done
8. go to system preferences and keyboard then shortcuts
9. click app shortcuts at the left hand side at the bottom and click + to create a new shortcut
10. leave the first box as it is and in the next box named menu item enter 'Shut Down...' (without the quotes)
11. in the last box enter the keyboard shortcut you created in step 6 and then click done
12. close system preferences to enable it to work
Mac Shuts Down On Boot
now when you say the first part of your command to call Siri (e.g. hey) the computer is put into listen mode then when you say shutdown my mac (or whatever phrase you use) Sierra will then press the keyboard shortcut that shuts down the mac. You should see a dialog box appear asking you if you wish to reopen pages when logging back in, if you do nothing then it will time out when the counter gets to zero, or you can hit enter
there is a way to go further but it involves creating a automator workflow as a service and using applescript to invoke a terminal command to shutdown without asking for confirmation first.
Hope this is of use to anyone.
